UNIKLEARN OPEN DAY FETES YOUNG ADULTS WITH AUTISM AND THEIR FAMILIES

As part of its efforts to reach out to the general public on the UnikLearn programme and scholarship opportunities, Startup Brunei and An-Nur Harapan Sdn Bhd held an Open Day for young adults with autism and their parents at the SPARK Lifeskill Centre in Jangsak.

The UnikLearn programme is a vocational training and internship programme designed by professional therapists for autistic youths with the overarching mission to empower young adults with autism towards independence and be contributing members of the community.

During the Open Day, families and the autistic young adults were given an introduction to the UnikLearn programme, the employability process and scholarship opportunities available. The briefing was subsequently followed by interactive activities conducted by therapists from SPARK.

A pre-assessment of each individual autistic young adult who attended the Open Day was also conducted by SPARK therapists where the candidates were assessed on several areas such verbal & communication, motor skills, compliance and arithmetic. A pool of the attendees will be selected for eligibility for admission into the six-months UnikLearn programme. Three candidates will be selected to receive the fully-funded UnikLearn scholarship from An-Nur Harapan Sdn Bhd.

The fully-funded scholarship programme by AN-NUR HARAPAN SDN BHD is open to Bruneian citizens aged 16 and above diagnosed within the autism spectrum disorder or any other related developmental delays. While the deadline for the scholarship programme has passed, a limited number of slots for regular applications into the programme will continue to be available.

The UnikLearn programme covers intensive training and skills building on key skills area made by experienced therapists and advisors. Upon completion of their training, the youth in the programme will be provided with on-the-job training under the Unikkone ice cream initiative. The clients will also receive post-training support, including work transition support for subsequent internship or work opportunities.
