Inclusive Fun Fest

A total of 113 persons with disabilities (PWD) participated in the first-ever national-level PWD parade during Bandarku Ceria at the Brunei Energy Hub, Dermaga Diraja yesterday.

The Festival Inclusive: Persons with Disabilities Parade, organised by the Department of Community Development (JAPEM) under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) aimed at promoting awareness, acceptance and appreciation of their abilities while advocating inclusive opportunities.

Yesterday also saw the launch of the Art for All Exhibition, held for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPWD) 2025.

Participants included representatives from various PWD categories, the National Council on the Welfare of Persons with Different Abilities (MKOKU), government agencies and NGOs.

The parade themed ‘Pulse of Bruneian Heritage (Purple Theme)’ saw participants in traditional attire, including Padian, carrying props such as temuai – a woven basket used by indigenous communities.

It highlighted that persons with disabilities have talents and potential, contributing to national development when given equal opportunities, while also strengthened bonds among PWDs, their families and the wider community as well as promoting confidence in public participation.

Permanent Secretary (Community) at the MCYS Hajah Nor Ashikin binti Johari officiated the parade and exhibition, as well as presented prizes to the three most creative teams.

First place went to Team Pusat Bahagia, second to SMARTER Brunei, and third to Team Uniklearn by An-Nur Harapan.

Meanwhile, the fourth Art for All Exhibition, curated by Wan Zahidah binti Metussin, is held from yesterday until December 31.

It features PWD artists’ paintings, handicrafts and other creative works inspired by Brunei’s heritage, culture and daily life.

Deputy Permanent Secretary (Culture) at the MCYS Dr Siti Norkhalbi binti Haji Wahsalfelah, Canadian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Dr Tamer Mansy, senior MCYS officers, MKOKU representatives, NGOs, sponsors and MCYS strategic partners were also present. – James Kon
