Autistic youths receive UnikLearn scholarships

FIVE autistic youths today received scholarships from UnikLearn to undergo a 6-month vocational training and internship programme at its centre.

The UnikLearn programme is designed to assist autistic individuals in securing jobs. Facilitated by professional therapists, the programme provides on-site job training and skills-building, as well as work transition support for subsequent internship.

The five recipients of the scholarship were Muhammad Zulfadzli Haji Matali, Mohd Syahmi Haji Juma’at, Muhammad Hafizuddin Hussain Haji Md Yusuf Thani, Md Firdaus Haji Jimidin and Muhammad Syahrul Izzam Asmat.

The training will commence tomorrow at the Spark Lifeskill Centre in Jangsak.

The scholarships are fully funded by An-Nur Harapan and Progresif Cellular Sdn Bhd. It is open to Bruneian citizens aged 16 and above who are diagnosed with the autism spectrum disorder or any other related development delays.

“We look forward to seeing these youth progress and develop, and eventually be equipped with the skills to begin employment upon completion of the programme and becoming contributing members of society,” said Noorsurainah Tengah, the board member of An-Nur Harapan.

Present to award the scholarship to the recipients at the iCentre was Pg Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman Pg Haji Damit, the chairman of An-Nur Harapan.

The next opening for the scholarship will be in December.
